snowy saturday

1. We live in Wisconsin.
2. It's winter.
3. Therefore, we don't need a constant ticker at the bottom of the television, especially when it's one of the 4 days a year [outside of the Olympics] there's actually gymnastics on television. I know it's hard to understand, but being able to see all of the gymnast and not just their top half is quite important!
4. So get with it WTMJ--okay? Wisconsin + winter = something we've all dealt with.

It is a well known fact among my friends that I am a romantic...always have been, always will be. I was the little girl obsessed with fairy tales and I still am looking for my Prince Charming. I cry at almost every movie, whether it's Disney or indie, and I have a special soft spot for sappy and utterly predictable romantic comedies. I absolutely LOVE weddings. Jane Austen is amazing--as a feminist I especially appreciate her strong female characters from a day and age where a woman was only worth what her family [read: father] could offer in the form of a dowry.

Okay, back on track. The entire point of this post is a song by Ben Harper. He's been accused of sappy and shallow lyrics [I knew a girl named Truth, she was a horrible liar...], but this song is just so simple and heartfelt to me that I had to share it. I quite like Ben when he's all stripped down like this...just his raspy voice and guitars.

Explanation: this is Jaime and me holding and petting [?] a giant African millipede at the Milwaukee Public Museum. Apparently millipedes are the harmless ones and centipedes are the ones that bite. I still don't like either one of them.

National Donor Day

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. It is also National Donor Day. Find it in yourself to be an organ donor. Sign the back of your driver's license and let your loved ones know your wishes. As cheesy and cliched as it is, you really can give the gift of life. I witness it every week.

Aussie fire

The "Black Sunday" fire in Australia is heartbreaking, even moreso now as it is believed to be the result of arson, but this story is heartwarming. Oh humanity.
